Course Description : This course covers the basic concepts of Networking and Telecommunication, Ethical and Social Issues in ICT, Computer Security, E-commerce, Contemporary Technology, Number Systems, Database Management Systems, Programming in QBASIC, Modular Programming, File Handling in QBASIC, Structured Programming in C.

Course Objective : The main objective of this course is to provide students with knowledge of fundamental concepts of Computer Technologies which includes concepts of Database Management Programming and Computer Security.

Course Contents:

Unit 1. Networking and Telecommunication 3 Hrs.

Networking and telecommunications involve the exchange of information and communication between devices through various technologies and protocols. These fields are essential in modern society, as they enable people to connect and communicate with each other, access information, and share resources, such as data and internet access. Networking and telecommunications are used in homes, businesses, and schools, and involve technologies such as wired and wireless connections, telephone lines, satellite, and internet protocols.

Unit 2. Ethical and Social Issues in ICT 3 Hrs.

Ethical and social issues in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) refer to the moral and societal implications of the use and development of technology. Some examples of ethical and social issues in ICT include privacy concerns, cyberbullying, and the digital divide. Privacy concerns related to the protection of personal information, such as name, address, and financial data, from being accessed or shared without permission. Cyberbullying refers to the use of technology, such as social media or messaging apps, to harass, threaten, or intimidate others. The digital divide refers to unequal access to technology and the internet, which can lead to social and economic inequalities. It is important to consider these ethical and social issues in the development and use of ICT, as they can have significant impacts on individuals and society.

Unit 3. Computer Security 3 Hrs.

Computer security refers to the measures taken to protect computer systems, networks, and devices from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction. This includes protecting against cyber threats, such as viruses, malware, and hacking, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and systems. Computer security is important because it helps to protect sensitive information, prevent data breaches, and maintain the functionality and reliability of computer systems. It is essential for individuals and organizations to implement appropriate security measures to safeguard their computer systems and data.

Unit 4. E-Commerce 3 Hrs.

E-commerce, or electronic commerce, refers to the buying and selling of goods and services over the internet. It includes a wide range of activities, such as online shopping, online banking, and online payment services. E-commerce has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its convenience, speed, and accessibility. It allows people to shop online from anywhere, at any time, and compare prices and products easily. E-commerce has also opened up new opportunities for businesses, allowing them to reach a global market and sell their products and services online. However, e-commerce also raises concerns about security, privacy, and fraud, and it is important for individuals and businesses to protect themselves when conducting transactions online.

Unit 5. Contemporary Technology 3 Hrs.

Contemporary technology refers to the current state of technology and the advances and developments that are shaping the world today. This includes a wide range of technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, virtual and augmented reality, and renewable energy sources. These technologies are having a significant impact on many aspects of society, including communication, transportation, healthcare, and entertainment. Contemporary technology is constantly evolving and changing, and it has the potential to revolutionize the way we live and work. It is important to stay up to date with the latest developments in contemporary technology in order to understand and prepare for the potential impacts on society.

Unit 6. Number system 3 Hrs.

A number system is a system for representing numbers and performing arithmetic calculations. There are many different number systems, including the decimal system, the binary system, and the hexadecimal system. The decimal system, also known as the base-10 system, is the most widely used number system and is based on the ten digits 0 through 9. It is used to represent and perform arithmetic calculations on whole numbers and fractions. The binary system, also known as the base-2 system, is used to represent and perform arithmetic calculations on whole numbers. It is based on only two digits, 0 and 1, and is used extensively in computer science and electrical engineering.

Unit 7. DBMS (Database Management System) 3 Hrs.

A database management system (DBMS) is a software application that is used to create, manage, and interact with a database. A database is a collection of data that is organized and stored in a structured format, typically in tables or fields. The DBMS is responsible for storing, organizing, and retrieving data from the database, as well as enforcing rules and constraints on the data. Unit 8. Programming in QBASIC 3 Hrs.

QBasic is a procedural programming language, which means that it is based on the idea of writing a series of steps or procedures to solve a problem or accomplish a task. It has a simple syntax and supports various programming constructs, such as loops, conditional statements, and functions. QBasic can be used to create a wide range of applications, including games, utilities, and scientific simulations.

Unit 9. File Handling in QBASIC 3 Hrs.

File handling in QBasic refers to the process of reading from and writing to files using the QBasic programming language. QBasic provides a number of commands and functions for working with files, such as OPEN, PRINT, INPUT, and LINE INPUT, which allow you to read and write data to a file.

Unit 10. Structured Programming in C 3 Hrs.

Structured Programming in C is an important programming concept, as it allows you to write efficient and well-organized code. It is also a foundational skill for many other programming tasks, such as object-oriented programming and data structures.
