Course Description :

Course Objective : Introduction to Information Technology provides an overview of the fundamental concepts in IT, covering computer hardware, software, and networking. The course introduces basic programming, data management, and internet technologies. It also explores the role of information systems in organizations, focusing on IT applications in education, business, and communication. Students will gain practical skills in using technology tools and understanding emerging trends like cloud computing and cybersecurity, preparing them for further studies in the field of IT.

Course Contents:

Unit 1. Fundamentals of Computer 3 Hrs.

Scope of IT and its importance, Computer system concepts, characteristics, capabilities and limitations, Generations of computers, Types of computers, Personal computer (PCs), Configurations of PCs, PCs specifications, Computer system architecture, Basic components of a computer system 1.7.1 Input devices, Output devices, CPU and its components, Memory: RAM, ROM, EPROM, PROM, Secondary storage device.

Unit 2. Office Automation Software 3 Hrs.

Office Automation Software, Word processor, Characteristics of word processor, Creating and formatting documents, managing page numbers, header and footer, proofing a document, inserting citation in APA and table of contents, Inserting objects from other applications, Mail merge, Printing documents, Spreadsheet Application, Characteristics of Spreadsheet, Creating, formatting and printing worksheets, Financial and statistical Functions in Excel, Creating, formatting and printing graphs, Presentation Application, Characteristics of presentation, Creating and save presentations, Applying template, Design slides, Animation on slide, Inserting hyperlink, slide number, date and time, Slide Transactions Master Slides, Slides printing.

Unit 3. Number System and Their Conversion 3 Hrs.

Number System and Their Conversion, Introduction of Number System, Decimal, Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal Number System and Conversion, Calculation in Binary – addition, subtraction.

Unit 4. Telecommunication and Computer Network 3 Hrs.

Telecommunication and Computer Network, Introduction of computer network, Types of networks - LAN, WAN, MAN, Topologies of LAN - Ring, Bus, Star, Mesh and Tree topologies, Communication Channels - Twisted, Coaxial, and Fiber Optic, Components of LAN - Media, NIC, Bridges, HUB, Routers,
Repeater and Gateways, Introduction to telecommunication, Telecommunication systems in Nepal.
